I loved California. I loved the sunshine, the people, the beauty of the coastline and the character of the little towns we found along the way. We also crossed over in Nevada, and I loved that too – driving across the desert underneath the vastness of the sky with my feet on the dash, nothing but shimmering tarmac ahead, makes me feel like the feisty heroine of an old American road movie.
Due to the ridiculous restrictions of my TERRIBLE travel insurance policy, I didn’t risk taking my DSLR as well as my Macbook, as the prospect of potentially losing both would almost certainly cause considerable mental breakdown and a lot of tears. As a result, I decided to see if I could rely solely on my iPhone 4s as a camera during my time away, using my usual small selection of apps for editing and effects. As it turns out, I was really happy with the quality of my photos and hardly ever really wished I had the DSLR with me – for a shorter trip the iPhone was great at capturing almost every moment I wanted it to.
I have lots of posts coming up sharing my experiences on the road, including Coachella, Las Vegas and camping in the desert at Joshua Tree National Park – but for now here’s a little preview of my favourite shots from the trip – California in iPhone photos.
Much more to come – what’s your favourite part of California?
