The Scottish are good at meat. They are good at cooking it, and they love to eat it – this is after all a country that offers minced meat and offal stuffed inside a sheep’s stomach at breakfast. This Friday’s post, then, is dedicated to the best meaty meal I could find.
Strolling around Edinburgh on Monday lunchtime, Sutty and I stumbled upon ‘Oink’ in the old town. ‘Oink’ specialises in hog roasts – that is all they do, and they do it perfectly. Succulent, melty pork, crisp salty crackling and fragrant fresh bread, smothered in sweet apple and spicy barbecue sauce. We ate them wrapped in foil standing on the cobbles of the beautiful old town streets in the cold sunshine. Heaven.
I walk past this place all the time and it’s far too tempting.
Oh my goodness, don’t resist. If I walked past this place every day, I would have a pig sandwich every day! I’m very jealous that you live in Edinburgh as well, it’s one of my favourite cities 🙂
